Jim Meier's English Channel Swim

Team Fundraising Goal: $50,000.00

I thrive on challenges. Marathons, crossing Finland on skis, three years chairing the Board of AJWS all tested my resolve and endurance. When I completed my term as Chair of AJWS a year ago and realized we would soon mark our 25th anniversary, I set my sights on the toughest challenge I expect to ever face: swimming across the English Channel, the granddaddy of open water swimming: rugged currents, water in the low 60s, and unpredictable conditions over the roughly 25-30 miles from England to France.

Once again I am dedicating this effort to AJWS and seek your support for this amazing organization as it completes its 25th year. While I like to test my limits, the fact that my efforts will benefit a great cause is crucial. When I swam the race around Manhattan Island in 2005 and 2006, the contributions of so many on my behalf were the boost that kept me going for 8 ? hours when fatigue was urging me to quit. The Channel is easily twice as difficult as Manhattan and the swim is likely to take me twice as long. So even more than in 2006 I am asking you to keep me, and AJWS, going. Your contribution now will help me make it to France.

Over the past 25 years, AJWS has grown from supporting a handful of community-based organizations in the most vulnerable and marginalized communities to 458. These groups work in 34 countries throughout the developing world. While fighting poverty, hunger and disease, AJWS grantees and volunteers, are also, I believe, helping to build long-term peace. I am proud to continue on the board.

Please join me in supporting AJWS by making a generous contribution towards our critical work around the globe. Please donate through this site by using the tab on your right.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.
