Dear Friends,

Thank you for visiting my Bat Mitzvah Project/AJWS site. It has been two years since I began this journey and I would love to inform you on why Haitians still need your help:

The population of Haiti is 9 million people and is one of the poorest countries in the world. After a terrible earthquake in 2010 at least 1.5 million were left homeless. More than 2 years later many of these men, women and children are still homeless living under plastic sheeting. When my father came back from a AJWS trip to Haiti in November 2012, he showed me pictures of life in Haiti. You could not imagine the conditions which people just like us must face each day.

Fonkoze is known as Haiti's "Alternative Bank for the Organized Poor. It has been making micro loans to 56,000 Haitian women and their families who earn less than $2 per day. Since the earthquake Fonkoze has been helping their clients either repair their homes or build new ones. American Jewish World Service (AJWS) is a long-time funder of Fonkoze and has supported the building 14 new houses.

I would like to share the blessing of my Bat Mitzvah by building a 15th home for a Haitian family.

Please join Fonkoze, AJWS and our community in this effort to support Haitian women rebuild their lives and their country. My fundraising goal is $4,000, which will allow Fonkoze to build a home for a woman in Haiti and her family.
